With pride, we join in congratulating Prof. Omotade Akin Aina (Tade) – our former Executive Director, and Prof. Ernest Aryeetey – our former Chairman, Board of Directors, who were both conferred with honorary degrees in a special congregation held at the University of Ghana – Legon, on 28th April 2023.
Prof. Aina was recognized for his immense contributions in advancement of excellence in research, knowledge, and practice internationally. Likewise, Prof. Aryeetey, was recognised for his contributions during his tenure as the vice-chancellor, that accelerated the University of Ghana into a research-intensive institution that supports structural transformation in Ghana.
Prof. Aina, a renowned African scholar, and sociologist diligently served as PASGR’s Executive Director (2014 – 2020), steering the institution to greater heights. An Alumni of the University of Lagos, London School of Economics, and the University of Sussex, Prof. Aina, a visionary practitioner and leader has directed both academic and philanthropic sectors internationally. Prior to joining PASGR, he served at the University of Lagos, CODESRIA, Ford foundation and Carnegie Corporation of New York. He now leads research unit at the Mastercard Foundation.
Prof. Aryeetey on the other hand, served as PASGR’s inaugural board chair between 2011- 2019, providing strategic leadership in the institution. The renowned Development Economist and Educationist is an Alumni of the University of Ghana and Universität Dortmund. He has led academics, research, and development sectors regionally and internationally. In addition to serving PASGR, he has significantly contributed during his reign at African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA), University of Ghana, UNU-World Institute for Development Economics (UNWIDER), Institute of Development Studies (IDS) Sussex, Swarthmore College, Yale University amongst other institutions.
