The Partnership for African Social & Governance Research (PASGR) in collaboration with the African Platform for Social Protection (APSP), have the great pleasure of cordially inviting you for the Inclusive and Just Social Protection in Africa (IJSPA) conference.
The hybrid conference will be held at The Tamarind Tree Hotel, Nairobi over two half-days: Thursday, August 26th and Friday, August 27th 2021, from 8.30 am – 2.00 pm East Africa Time. You can be part of this important and timely conversation by registering on this event link
The theme of the conference is “Innovative, Inclusive, and Afrocentric Social Protection: Leveraging Voices and Representation in the era of the COVID -19 Pandemic”. It centers on the voices of the citizens, recipients of social protection, grass root and civil society actors in contributing to the policy deliberation on “The Post COVID 19 Social Protection Agenda for Africa”. If there is one painful lesson, we have learnt since the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic is how weak and vulnerable our countries are in providing social protection to the citizens who needed them the most. Pre-COVID statistics indicated that more than 82% of the population of Sub Sahara Africa did not have access to social Protection. As a result of the pandemic, it is estimated that unemployment rates in the continent have increased by 0.7% resulting in about 40 million “newly” poor Africans, and eroding the progress of poverty reduction across the continent.
